Interesting facts about Clifton Hill
Clifton Hill got its name from Captain Ogden Creighton, a retired officer from the British Army. Around 1830, Creighton bought a large tract of land on what is now the south side of Clifton Hill. He had the land surveyed and laid out for a town site, which he named “Clifton” likely after the gorge on the River Avon in Bristol, England.
Although the town did not develop as Creighton had hoped, the area later became part of what is now the City of Niagara Falls. Clifton Hill is now one of the most famous streets in the city.
