With ancient Celtic origins and both pagan and religious influences, Halloween has evolved into a secular holiday in North America. It’s celebrated throughout September and October with decorations and activities, culminating in the final official date of October 31.
For young children, Halloween is a fun occasion for dress-up and trick-or-treating. But the holiday also offers frightful, hair-raising entertainment for adults.
During Halloween, the boundary between the living and the dead is blurred. From immersive haunted houses, scare parks and horror film festivals to sinister walking tours and costume parties, embrace the fright-filled fun of Halloween across Ontario.
These events are not recommended for young children or the faint of heart. Check for minimum age requirements before purchasing tickets.
Greater Toronto Area
Legends of Horror at Casa Loma
Keep your wits about you along the two-kilometre trail in the haunted gardens and dark castle tunnels of Legends of Horror at Casa Loma.
The immersive experience lasts over an hour and features theatrically designed sets and 3D-projected images on the castle walls, bringing characters to life and raising fear levels.
Alternatively, step into the Casa Loma Halloween zombie-themed haunted house, “Zombie Apocalypse.” Explore biological labs with grisly experiments and survivor camps where the last of humanity struggle to survive. This attraction is about 30 minutes long.
Legends of Horror takes place most evenings throughout October. Earlier family hours offer a less scary experience.

Original Haunted Walk of Toronto
Learn about the dark history of Toronto on a spine-tingling ghost tour.
From ghosts and graveyards to hangings to haunts, you’ll hear all sorts of scary stories on this spooky urban adventure. Start at the courtyard near the Hockey Hall of Fame and tour through the city for 75 minutes.
In addition to the Original Haunted Walk, you can hear more eerie tales on tours in other parts of the city, such as the Distillery District, the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre and the University of Toronto campus.
The Original Haunted Walk is also available in Ottawa and Kingston. Tours run throughout the year.

Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland
On select days in September and October, the famous Canada’s Wonderland theme park is transformed into Canada’s largest Halloween event, a dark and sinister scream park.
Enter spooky mazes and horrifying scare zones. Climb aboard exciting night rides and encounter hundreds of monsters. Face your fears in the “Dark Ride,” an abandoned carnival and enjoy live entertainment during the “Day of the Dead Festival.”

Screemers
Toronto’s original haunted attraction celebrates its 30th season of fright and terror.
Featuring haunted mazes and over 120 live actors, this bone-chilling attraction is housed under a large 1,400-square-metre tent. Experience stage shows and realistic props that will keep you on your toes. Enjoy unlimited rides on the Midway of Madness and sample snacks from the food truck eatery area.
The average length of time spent at Screemers is two hours. Admission fees includes entrance to all seven Halloween attractions and carnival rides.

Haunted Hollows Scream Park
Face your deepest fears in the dark forest of Haunted Hollows Scream Park.
Located near Newmarket’s Upper Canada Mall, this park is one of the top Halloween haunted attractions in the Greater Toronto Area. Encounter terrifying clowns, ghouls, murderers, cannibals and other demented and deranged characters.
The park features haunted attractions like The Butcher Shop, Carnevil Circus, Chainsaw Alley and The Dead Die-ner. With its sinister props and eerie animatronics, many visitors scream the whole time.
The park operates from early October to early November; tickets are available online.

Brawley Woods Haunted Halloween Walk
This Halloween experience is not for the squeamish.
One of Ontario’s most intense haunted walks features movie production props, animatronics and live actors in a dark, wooded forest.

Niagara Region
Nightmares Fear Factory
Located in the heart of Niagara Falls’ popular Clifton Hill, Nightmares Fear Factory is the scariest haunted house in the Niagara region.
The legend goes that the location was once a coffin factory and the proprietor, Abraham Mortimer, now haunts the premises. As you go through the factory in total darkness, actors may grab and pull you, and you’ll hear growls, barks and spooky music.
Warning! If you’re scared, yell the safe word “nightmares” to be guided out through the Chicken exit. However, your name will be added to the public “chicken list”, which showcases the names of over 160,000 people who also had to leave the tour.

Frightmare in the Falls
Dress up in your best Halloween costume for the largest horror festival in North America. This popular event takes place in the Niagara Convention Centre, near the majestic Horseshoe Falls, from October 25 to 27, 2024.
Enjoy horror-themed memorabilia, panels, displays, celebrities and special effects props. Watch screenings of famed Halloween movies or join the Cosplay Contest to determine the best-crafted costume.

Screampark at Bingemans
Featuring a variety of gory attractions like the Crypt of Terror, The Slaughter Shed and The Blood Bar, Screampark is not for the faint of heart.
Each attraction is different—you’ll venture through a spooky labyrinth, an eerie forest and a chilling maze with haunts around every corner. Shaky paths, crawling areas, smoke and strobe lights heighten the fear factor at this scream park.

Cannington Haunted Attraction
Hear the howling of ghoulish creatures and the screams of the fearful in the immersive, horror-themed wooded trails and barn maze. Entertainers will roam the area, meaning there’s always a chance you’ll be scared, even while you’re in line. Stay alert!
If you love escape rooms, try the new “Face Your Fears” or “Cemetery of Lost Souls” games. For extra fun, there will be a photo booth, food vendor, axe-throwing and a decorated museum onsite.

Acres of Terror at Cannamore Orchard
One of Eastern Ontario’s “Most Terrifying Halloween Attractions” invites you to survive four frightful experiences.
Take a tractor-pulled wagon ride over the property staged with unnerving scenes, explore the House of Terror, wander the interactive spooky village and escape from the indoor, fog-filled maze.
This event runs during September and October on the weekends.

Ottawa Ghost Tours
Take a guided walk in the national capital to uncover haunted places and supernatural stories.
Choose from spine-tingling tours that explore the secrets of the Château Laurier, delve into the ghostly past of Bytown Museum and tales from the mausoleum at Beechwood Cemetery.
Guides leading groups by lantern light share some of Ottawa’s darkest mysteries and unbelievable histories.

This is the stuff of nightmares, but only from late September until October 31.

Brave seven terrifying outdoor haunts this season, including a nightmarish asylum, a dark corn maze, a horror house, a hellish hayride, a backwoods swamp, a carnival and an alien lab.
These haunts are designed for guests over 16. Daytime events and entertainment are available for families with younger children.

Scarehouse Windsor
Scarehouse dares you to explore five themed haunted houses—if you can.
Ranging from the Mirror Maze to Haunted Darkness, these chilling rooms feature dark lighting, horrifying graphics and actors crawling from the beds and closets.
Select the immersive 90-minute dinner experience to enjoy a multi-course meal followed by the five haunted houses, with VIP access to the terrifying Scared Evil attraction.
Scarehouse runs from mid-September to the end of October 31.

Creepy Caledonia Ghost Tours
Venture on a lantern-lit walking tour through the cobblestone paths of Caledonia, west of Hamilton, and listen to local ghost stories, legends and folklore.
Tours are led on select October dates and last under two hours.

RBG After Dark: Pumpkin Trail
Follow a trail marked with hundreds of glowing and flickering Jack-o-Lanterns leading the way. Enjoy food and drink, music, entertainment and fun Halloween events.
The adult-themed event is designed for guests ages 19 and over. It takes place on October 24, 2024, from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. in Hendrie Park at the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG).
